1. Dress for Travel Success

I make it a rule to never check a bag, and I don't like carry-on bags with wheels because they usually don't fit in the overhead bin. Research and download helpful travel apps like Trip It, which organizes flight, hotel, and rental car plans into a single itinerary. I also love to snap and store photos of friends and family on my phone so I can browse through them while I'm away.

If you're partial to a particular brand of coffee or tea—and looking to save money—brew your own at home and pour it into a thermos before a car trip. I have a photographer friend who loves yerba matte tea, which is obviously tough to find on the go, so she always totes her own.
