While most folks opt for white in the kitchen, it's the one room the owner of this Montana farmhouse bathed in moodier hues. She painted her custom cabinets hunter green (Mohengan Sage by Benjamin Moore) and oiled the fir beadboard a golden brown—giving the tight, 75-square-foot spot a jewel box feel. An ivory apron-front sink by Shaws offers a burst of brightness.

Single Green Wall
In the living room of this cottage, a single painted wall speaks volumes. "This cool green wall causes the others to recede—which makes my narrow living room feel larger," says Lisa Teague, the designer and homeowner, who used Sea Glass paint from her own line. "Plus, the sofa and artwork would’ve disappeared against white."
Master Bathroom
The master bathroom's tub in this New Hampshire farmhouse is from Restoration Hardware; the bold green wall color is Pratt & Lambert's Light Chartreuse.
In this beach house's kitchen the cabinetry is painted a color similar to "Green Crystal" from Olympic. Cape Cod artist Tim Dibble custom-carved the kitchen's slate apron-front sink to incorporate local icons: a windmill, whale, lighthouse, and the word riptide. Wood-Mode cabinetry stores Bonnie's collection of Fiestaware.
