The faux paneling in this bathroom was crafted of 4x4's, and painted in complementary light and dark greens. For rooms (not just bathrooms!) with short ceilings, try placing art on the floor, rather than hanging it on the walls to give the room a sense of added height.
The homeowner of this restored country kitchen came across this early-1900s green Mexican desk — $350 at an antiques shop — and saw an opportunity for a one-of-a-kind workstation. To make the piece even more functional, she improvised a lower shelf by propping basic wood planks atop the stretchers.
Conventional wisdom dictates white on wainscoting and color above, but the owner of this Montana farmhouse flipped that combination by painting the trim in her master bathroom a (custom-blended) mossy green and the upper walls ivory. Along the way, she gained a cozy corner that seems to hug her vintage tub. Green Library
In the library of this colorful farmhouse, the owners' built-in shelves, covered with photos and prints, become artwork themselves. The couple found the mercury-glass pendant lampshades at a local antiques show. An unusual coat of yellow shakes up a reproduction Windsor chair.
